7. What breeds are you most familiar working with? | My first dog was a Labrador/Shepherd X who taught me a lot in the early days. Since then I have owned and trained many gundogs breeds such as an English Setter, Golden Retriever, English Springer Spaniels, and now Nova Scotia Dock Tolling Retrievers as these suit the dog-sports and activities I am privately involved with. As well as my own dogs, my work in SPCA shelters, dog clubs and as a professional has made me familiar and given direct experiences with most recognised breeds and many types of common crosses | |
8. Do you have any formal dog training qualification? What are they? If not, why do you feel that you are a competent dog trainer? | Principles of Canine Behaviour Certificate (Massey University), Certificate in Adult Learning (USP-Fiji) Almost 30 years practical experience instructing and training dogs and their owners of all shapes and sizes with two years as a professional dog behavioural trainer for the RSPCA-ACT. |

12. What experiences do you have with dogs? (ie. obedience, agility, work at SPCA etc) | I began competing in obedience competitions in 1980 and have successfully campaigned dogs through to Test C and attained NZKC Tracking Dog qualifications. Over the years my personal interests in dog sports have changed and I am currently a successful participant and judge in Rally Obedience and Paws’N’Music. My professional training focus being on pet dogs I ensure my dogs are Canine Good Citizen certified – some in more than one country and am a New Zealand Kennel Club CGC Assessor myself. I am also active in the dog fraternity as volunteer handler and trainer for the SPCA-Wellington and on the Committee of both Association of Pet Dog Trainers NZ and Central Allbreeds DTS in Wellington. |
