Had to get Jean Donaldson's new book -- and DVD -- Train Your Dog Like a Pro.
Donaldson gives some nicely organized recipes for shaping this or that behavior. That's one of her strengths, one of the strengths of her method. She's less convincing or helpful in dealing with behaviors that aren't reducible for discrete shaping. She makes very good teaching point in emphasizing 5 tries to determine when to push, stick, or drop.
Five is an easy number for people to keep track of. (Really, most pet trng students aren't going to do the kind of careful bookkeeping Donaldson's recipes would demand.) Her approach makes shaping by +R/-P manageable for pet trainers.
